After three decades in the travel industry, I started writing travel essays under the name Postcards with Perspective. Essays about the places behind the brochures: the hotels, locations and experiences that reveal a destination, the rituals of arrival, and the ideas shaping how we travel now.
The essays’ main home is my Postcards with Perspective Substack, but many are also homed here, along with travel literature reviews. Each essay starts small, a hotel, a street, a moment, then zooms out to ask why a place feels the way it does. The history beneath the surface. The culture that shaped the architecture. The reason some hotels age beautifully and others just age. Written by someone who has spent three decades on the inside, now taking a long look from the outside.

A free subscription to my Postcards with Perspective Substack delivers a weekly essay direct to your inbox. Quiet observational writing on hotels, destinations and the ideas shaping modern travel. No listicles. No clickbait. Just intelligent, carefully considered pieces from someone who has spent three decades thinking about how travel works.
“Postcards are, reassuringly, one of the last reliably analogue forms of communication.
